It is listing all the things that God had allowed to the Jewish people. It says that out of all people, god is only letting them suffer. This is the end of Elie's faith. Him, seeing everyone stuck in the place where just might die, praising the divine being who let it happen.

EXTRA CREDIT: Should the Jewish people fast for their holiday? Why or why not?

No. God had abandoned them in their time of need, and fasting would submit to His will. Also, fasting would surely kill them faster, where it is here that a piece of bread can keep you from dying.

separated women and men, then young and old from the fit, and then sent to the barracks. After, they were forced to strip, run through the mud, and separated from the stronger and the normal. they then were shaved and bathed, and given clothes.

they are walked through towns and fields and were forced to watch thir captors flirt with young girls, which is disgusting in a way, as theses people are literally marching the Jews to their deaths.

Describe the treatment of Madam Shachter. Why is she treated this way?
She is screaming about fire through the night and disturbing everyone. She is beaten multiple times into silence. A reason could be a disturbance of the peace, but this was a very common way of treating the mentally ill back in the day, and in the savagery that was taking over these people, it was a way of letting out frustrations.

Geo Questions

The struggle in Latin America for democratic governments has been a difficult one. Many nations that have come out of military rule were in economic ruin. Many of the countries denied free speech, free press, and many people were forced into poverty. Many countries under military rule face more starving, oppression, and and overall bad time. The most popular way of getting out this form of government is an old classic: revolution. Rebellions can last for many years, and sometimes, the new government is as bad (or worse) than the original. In most cases, they are better. Argentina is thriving under a democracy, as is Chile and Brazil. I believe, for the most part, that democracy has won for the time being.
