Pedantry: n. the character, qualities, practices, etc., of a pedant, especially undue display of learning.


Odious: Adj. deserving or causing hatred

Luxuriant: adj. abundant or lush in growth

Dictum: n. an authoritative pronouncment

Cacophony: n. harsh discordance of sound

Proclivity: n. natural inclination or tendency

Proboscis: n. the trunk of an elephant

Stratum: n. a layer of material

Mausoleum:  a magnificent tomb

Marionette: n. a puppet controlled by strings

Phoenix: n. a mythical bird of great beauty fabled to live 500 or 600 years in the Arabian wilderness, to burn itself on a funeral pyre, and to rise from its ashes in the freshness of youth and live through another cycle of years
